NBS4RESILIENCE: Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience
The NBS4RESILIENCE project aims to tackle the growing vulnerability of the Adriatic-Ionian region to climate change by implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) to improve climate resilience.
Temperatures in this area are already above 1.5°C higher than in pre-industrial times and therefore the region is exposed to climate shocks and natural disasters such as floods, droughts, forest fires and erosion. The project will introduce several problem-appropriate, nature-based solutions to increase climate resilience and security while improving biodiversity and ecosystem services.
The pilot actions will allow to transfer the findings into the joint Transnational Climate Resilient NBS-based Transition Strategy for the IPA ADRION region. Finally, NBS4RESILIENCE will foster a long-term collaboration between science, policy and practise that will produce several policy proposals and complementary NBS standards that will enable and catalyse the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS) for climate resilience.
Project will develop:
- Participatory Climate Resilient Forums: citizen participation in co-creating nature-based solutions (NBS) to local climate challenges at six pilot sites;
- Implementation and testing of NBS for resilience to floods, erosion and landslides, heat, drought, forest fire prevention, water flow regulation and coastal resilience;
- Roadmap for co-designing NBS-based Climate Resilient Transition Planning: A guide for public authorities to engage citizens in climate resilience planning;
- Transnational Climate Resilient NBS-based Transition Strategy: A key methodology to guide future climate resilience planning through nature-based solutions;
- Policy Masterplan for NBS-based Climate Transition: A comprehensive strategy for public authorities to integrate nature-based solutions into regional policies;
- Governance Guidebook for Boosting NBS-based Climate Transition: A step-by-step guide for public authorities to implement nature-based solutions.
Project duration: September 1st 2024 – August 31st 2027.
